National Chocolate Caramel Day!

Did you know that today, March 19, is National Chocolate Caramel Day? While Milton Hershey is often credited with the popularity of the chocolate and caramel combination, there are recipes recorded earlier in the 1880’s. In fact, it wasn’t until after Hershey visiting the World’s Colombian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, that Hershey’s Lancaster Caramel Company first began producing chocolate and caramel candy bars. A classic combination sure to please even the pickiest of eaters, there's no wonder it has continued to be a favorite throughout the years. Whether it’s your favorite candy bar, a delectable dessert, your morning coffee or topping your ice cream, there’s countless ways to enjoy caramel and chocolate today. And, at Walt Disney World, it’s no different! Disney is truly a food lover’s dream!

In Epcot, there’s no better mid-day, late-night, or any time in-between snack than Karamell-Küche. As you walk past the Germany Pavilion, the smell of caramel draws you in to Karamell-Küche. Here you’ll find a massive selection of hand-crafted treats, as well as a wide variety of Werther’s Original. With chocolate caramel popcorn, caramel s’mores, caramel and nut clusters, chocolate and caramel covered apples, caramel covered brownies, caramel filled chocolate cookies and chocolate covered caramels, there’s something for everyone! One of my personal, and unexpected favorites is the Caramel and Chocolate Covered Pineapple. This chunk of pineapple is dunked in decadent chocolate and drizzled with Werther’s Original caramel. For a limited time, you can also grab the 50th Celebration Cupcake - this dark chocolate cake is topped with a salted caramel buttercream and decorated with celebration sprinkles, caramel drizzle and a milk chocolate 50th Anniversary icon.

While in Magic Kingdom, my absolute favorite stop in the Main Street Confectionary! The newly refurbished Main Street Confectionary is now The Home of Mars Candy Treats, meaning you can find a wide selection of treats featuring Mars Candy! Get your chocolate and caramel with with a Chocolate Chunk Cookie, Chocolate Cupcake of Chocolate Fudge topped with Snickers, Chocolate Fudge or Chocolate Covered Rice Krispie Treats topped with Snickers, guests can also find a selection of prepackage sea salt caramels, Mars chocolate bars, chocolate and caramel apples! Then, head past the kitchen viewing window to Kernel Kitchen. Here you can choose from several options to create your own popcorn creation. Not sure, feel free to choose from one of their Main Street Favorites, including my personal favorite, and winner of The Sweetest Spoon, Willie’s Sweetest Spoon Recipe made with caramel popcorn, Snickers pieces, Peanut M&M’s, Pretzels, Crushed Chocolate Cookies and Milk Chocolate!
